The Director of the Potomac Institute for Policy Studies’ Center for Health Policy and Preparedness, Donald Donahue DHEd, has co-authored an article with former Surgeon General Richard Carmona, MD, in the May 26 issue of the Journal of the American Medical Association. In this article, “Retooling the Uniformed Public Health Service for the 21st Century,” the authors call for beefing up the US public health service to respond to the rapid emergence of new diseases and health threats. "Strengthening global public health has been identified as a priority by the World Health Organization," says Dr. Donahue. "The commissioned corps of the US public health service draws upon unique history and capabilities. We are delighted to have the opportunity to present our case in a premiere medical journal for what arguably should be the nation's next healthcare initiative."
